Eons

The depth of my longing for you

destroys me.

How do you kill so beautifully?

What madness

have you lit inside my veins, etching

my walls and stars with ruin?

I am become the ages

filled with echoes of unfulfilled

desire.

Hello and welcome to my page~ My name is Larisa--a very common Slavic name that was either derived from the Latin word hilaris, meaning "cheerful," or from the Greek city of Larissa, meaning "strong fortress." Born in Ukraine, I emigrated with my family to America when I was still a small child and now make my home in the beautiful Pacific Northwest. Growing up immersed in two vastly differing cultures led me to have a burning curiosity about people all over the world. Stemming from said curiosity, I have fallen in love with traveling to other countries, meeting new people and delving into their culture, exploring new cities, and of course, dining on the local cuisine! If I cannot escape into a different country, then my next favorite method of adventure is to lose myself in a spectacular book. I enjoy books of all genres--from fiction and novels, to biographies and ethnographies. As long as it captures my fancy and holds me spellbound the entire time, I will burn through the book like a forest fire! Because of this penchant for reading and travel, coupled with my love of deep and mysterious things, I have been often called a dreamer and I find the title suits me. With that being said, I invite you to stay a while, perhaps make yourself a cup of tea and linger through my posts and feel free to comment or share a thought :-)

    1. Shanyu, thank you so much for such gorgeous feedback! I confess, I left the blogosphere for a while. I couldn’t really keep up with everything going on in my life and dedicate the passion and time I would’ve liked to my blog. But the beauty of this place is that I always have my little corner of the world to gravitate back to on the internet, and beautiful souls like you to welcome me back 💗

        1. I am always focused on the up and up, Shanyu. Some days are a struggle, and some days I’m soaring above the clouds. But either way, there are lessons to be learned in both. I trust you’ve been faring well?

          1. I very much agree. I have been inconsistent on the blog myself. Trying to get back into the community. More to what you highlighted earlier- this really is a wonderful wonderful place to call our own. Thanks you so much for the visit. Been writing a poem a day for three weeks now.

            1. Wow! I wish I had that bottomless well of inspiration to be able to write a poem a day! I envy people for whom it is so effortless. All my poems are born of grief, or longing, or some other profound experience, so they all tend to have scattered pieces of me in them. As such, when I am uninspired, no poetry comes out haha. You’re absolutely welcome, and my gratitude to you as well for these lovely interactions 💗

              1. Oh no, from what I have experienced, it is creatively draining. But it really forces one to move out of the comfort zone. It is very difficult to write poetry as it is, finding daily inspiration is even worse. I am using thirty day prompts. Either way, what matters in the end is how profound your poetry is, regardless of the time it takes. Let’s hope you find some inspiration in the days to come.

  1. Glad to find this poem from you.
You have a sweet spot for passionate expressions and I love the depth to them. So much so that in fact I relate so easily to the feelings you describe, experiencing them as well and you’ve given them words.
Your little circle photo is also gorgeous. ❤️

    1. I loved this comment. Thank you for recognizing those factors in my poems since I always, always want to convey the depths of what I’m experiencing. I feel like I can’t feel things half way, I’m always all in or not at all. We are so synergetic, I am not surprised in the least that you recognize yourself in my words, the same way I gravitate towards yours. And thank you for the compliment ♥️ I love how you said “little circle photo” haha

You are such a delight, April, you never cease to amaze me with the way you respond to my poetry, and it always blows me away. I’ve missed you and I’m so glad you dropped in ♥️ I am looking forward to perusing my way through your blog and acquainting myself with everything I’ve missed since I’ve been away.

      1. Pain and destruction create the most fertile soil for art – I’m sure there’s so much more you can easily bring to life, Larisa, but believe me, you captured so much more in this lovely piece. The end is so haunting!

  2. Something I didn’t catch the last time I read this was the placement of the two questions. When the narrator asks about killing, it’s after the lines about the depths, as if calling from the grave itself. Then the question about madness comes before the line about the endless echoes throughout the ages, so there’s a constant noise/voice reminding the narrator. Neat little details like that make revisiting poems all the better!

And if I read too much into that, or if your interpretation is different, it was still a great poem. You have a well-cultivated gift for crafting poems!

    1. This comment made me giddy! Thank you so much for such a gem!! Please feel free to dig as deep as you would like, because it’s insights like this that take me out of the inside of the experience and enable me to look at the situation from a different perspective. And I love that! Thank you for such a generous compliment also 🙏🏻

  3. Beautiful poem! I love your use of “am become.” It has much more power poetically than “have become.” I use it in my poetry but few people do. It adds such a feeling of majesty, grandeur, depth to writing. Well done.

    1. Thank you so much Will! I was just pouring out what I was feeling and there was no other way I could have phrased it than “am become.” I love insights like yours and I couldn’t agree more with the majesty that certain phrases add to our writings 🙏🏻

      1. I know that feeling, sometimes you scribble it all out in a rush and it turns out magical. You have a beautiful way of saying even the most painful things.
